PK Piotr Kukliński

Piotr Kukliński is an assistant professor at the Department of Marine Ecology at the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences. He is the head of the Ecosystem Functioning Laboratory. Research in his lab focuses mainly on the changes in ecosystem functioning in rapidly changing polar environments. His scientific interests generally are focused on the ecology of rocky shore organisms especially processes of colonization and succession and factors influencing those processes, chemical and mineralogical composition of marine invertebrates skeletons and environment factors controlling it, taxonomy and systematic of Bryozoa. He has conducted his research in the temperate zone of the North Atlantic and Pacific, Mediterranean Sea, Arctic, Antarctic and in the Baltic Sea.

He received a Master's Degree in Biological Oceanography from University of Gdańsk in 2000, a PhD (from Institute of Oceanology PAS) in 2004 and habilitation degree (also from Institute of Oceanology PAS) in 2009. His PhD thesis was focused on ecology of bryozoans form Svalbard waters. Since 2004 he has been employed at the Department of Marine Ecology, Institute of Oceanology PAS. Between 2005 and 2007 he was awarded EU Marie Curie scholarship which allowed him to work on aspects of Arctic bryozoan diversity at Natural History Museum in London where he is scientific associate to these days.

In the DWARF project he is working within the Work Package 4 (Marine Benthic Fauna). In the marine benthic part of the DWARF research he is interested in investigation of bryozoan zooid sizes on species and assemblage level across various environmental gradients including those related to depth and temperature.
