The main objective of the PAVE project is to observe, analyze and explain variability of the Atlantic inflow into the Arctic Ocean along two main pathways and to recognize its impact on climate changes, in particular retreating sea ice cover, and changing ecosystems in the European Arctic. The main objective of WP1 is to warrant effective, smooth and high-quality performance of the PAVE project. WP1 takes care of the administration of the project, reporting, provision of deliverables, organization of meetings, and financial issues. The main objective of WP2 is to gain new knowledge on variability of the Atlantic water properties and transport in the West Spitsbergen Current on the different time scales using available historical data and dedicated measurements. The main objective of WP3 is to gain new knowledge on variability of the Atlantic water transport in the Barents Sea using available historical data and dedicated measurements. The main objective of WP4 is to analyze variability of the Atlantic water transport and primary production in the Fram Strait and Barents Sea branches on the basis of state-of-the-art numerical simulations. WP5 is devoted to the synthesis of observations and model results in Fram Strait and Barents Sea with a focus on possible links of the heat transport into the Arctic Ocean to atmospheric forcing and air-sea interactions in the Nordic Seas region. The main objective of WP6 is to assess the impact of varying strength the AW inflow along different pathways on the sea ice coverage the European Arctic and changing Arctic ecosystems. |
